Fairfax County Department of Economic Initiatives (DEI) programs were awarded three 2024 Excellence in Economic Development Awards from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
The winning entries showcased innovative approaches to promoting and supporting local businesses, tourism, and our dynamic economy. Program partners included the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (EDA) and Visit Fairfax, with Visit Fairfax leading tourism and hospitality programs.
Visit Fairfax Multimedia Video Brochure
Fairfax County produced a highly personalized multimedia video brochure, delivered to target group meeting and event decision makers. This personalized video and gift box was designed to “surprise and delight” while breaking through the clutter to engage potential group opportunities. To date the economic impact success is $1.8M.
Visit Fairfax Love Every Mile Media Campaign
Visit Fairfax developed an integrated media campaign in top feeder city, Philadelphia, to increase awareness and consideration of Fairfax County as a destination for vacationers interested in traveling to the Washington DC area. This resulted in a 23.3% increase in visitors from Philadelphia and more than $37 million in visitor spend.
Fairfax Founders Fund
The Fairfax Founders Fund ("FFF" or "Fund") offers up to $50,000 in flexible funding and technical assistance to early-stage, high-growth tech startups in Fairfax County. This pioneering initiative seeks to address the funding gap that these firms face, particularly those founded by women or people of color. To date 13 founders have been awarded with early reporting showcasing significant growth in their businesses.
IEDC’s annual Excellence Awards honor the economic development organizations, government entities, initiatives, and programs that have demonstrated consistent, exemplary performance in the profession.
