Rendering of New MPA Arts and Education Center
Fairfax County partnered with the McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) to provide funding for the buildout of the MPA Downtown Arts & Education Center. The property consists of approximately 5,000 SF of interior space and 1,700 SF of outdoor patio area. The Center will transform a vacant retail space and outdoor patio area into a cultural landmark in downtown McLean. Programming for the Center includes two galleries, teaching space, a ceramic studio, café, and retail sales area for gifts, artwork, and supplies.

Project Goals:
MPA acquired the property located at The Signet in downtown McLean (Tax Map: 30-2 ((54)) 2) in September 2024.
Capital fundraising campaign is underway. Through March 2025, MPA has raised over $5.5 million of the $6.25 million required.
Project design is complete with construction drawings submitted for permitting.
The McLean Project for the Arts & Education Center is expected to open in early 2026.

Project Outcomes:
Real estate tax revenue has increased, providing greater fiscal support for the local community. The real estate tax assessment of the property has increased by 21% from 2024 to 2025.
New commercial and residential developments are now underway in the blocks surrounding the MPA including the MARS headquarters and a new condominium building. Together with the MPA, these will encourage greater economic activity and placemaking opportunities in downtown McLean.
