Clear Your Record: Franconia District Hosting Expungement Clinic Sept. 13

Criminal charges that did not lead to conviction can create significant barriers for people seeking jobs, housing or other opportunities. The Franconia District Supervisor's Office, in partnership with the Clerk of the Circuit Court and the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, will host an expungement clinic to assist residents with clearing eligible charges from their records on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Hybla Valley Community Center.

The clinic will require pre-registration and will include volunteer defense attorneys on site to assess whether participants are eligible for an expungement. The event aims to help residents eliminate barriers caused by charges that did not result in a conviction.

Expungement is a legal process that removes police and court records related to certain criminal cases from public access. Eligible charges include those that resulted in acquittal, dismissal, “nolle prosequi” (charges dropped), an absolute pardon or cases where an individual’s name was used in error. While expunged records are not destroyed, they are sealed and accessible only by court order.
