Social work is a challenging yet rewarding and essential career.
On a recent episode of the “County Conversation” podcast, Keesha Coke, assistant division director of Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, talks about her background and experience in working with survivors of abuse, human trafficking and stalking, as well as social work opportunities.
Coke is a passionate social worker who is committed to changing the public's perception of the field and in raising awareness of the positive work social workers do. Ultimately, she would love to see social workers respected and appreciated for their invaluable work.
DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE HOTLINE
The Domestic and Sexual Violence Hotline (703-360-7273) offers round-the-clock compassionate listening, safety planning and resources to callers.
The hotline provides information and tools for supporting someone who has experienced abuse, helps survivors develop a personalized safety plan and provides support for their unique circumstances. The hotline is also a resource for survivors, professionals working with survivors, and concerned friends and family members.
In addition to the hotline, Domestic and Sexual Violence Services offers other services, such as accompanying survivors to court, medical exams and providing group counseling.
