Fairfax County’s murals program, “Paint It, Fairfax!”, has unveiled its first mural in the heart of Annandale at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space. Available in the county’s Community Revitalization Districts and Areas, “Paint It, Fairfax!” is focused on enlivening community spaces by delivering murals that facilitate community connection, sense of pride and identity.
Italian artist Pepe Gaka developed the new mural. He hand painted this intricate work to represent the diversity of Annandale and the native plant species that are present in the Civic Space’s educational garden. Residents are encouraged to see the mural during the Eileen Garnett Civic Space’s Winter Fest on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
In the coming year, murals will be considered and planned for other Community Revitalization Districts and Areas, like Springfield, McLean, Lincolnia and Bailey’s Crossroads.
Artists in the Mid-Atlantic region are welcome to submit their portfolios and join the "Paint It, Fairfax!" database, contributing to the artistic tapestry of the county and making a lasting positive impact.
