New self-service kiosks now give you a faster option to make personal property tax payments closer to home, eliminating the need to visit our Department of Tax Administration’s customer service counter.
The kiosks are available at four county government locations:
- Fairfax County Government Center, Fairfax
- Gerry Hyland Government Center, Alexandria
- North County Government Center, Reston
- Mason District Government Center, Annandale
North County and Mason District government center kiosks have 24-hour access, because they are co-located with district police stations. Other kiosks are available during the building’s operating hours.
Kiosks accept cash, check and credit card payments. They also allow you to check account balances, print receipts and complete the same payment transactions for personal property taxes currently offered at service counters.
The kiosks currently accept payments only for personal property tax, also known as the vehicle or car tax.
New Way to Pay with Cash
Previously the only option for residents who wanted to pay in cash was paying in person at the counter in the Fairfax County Government Center. By placing cash-accepting machines at additional sites, we have extended an option that was previously in one location.
Now, you can save time and mileage by using the nearest kiosk. And with two machines available 24/7, you can pay at a time that works best for your schedules.
The kiosk locations also reflect our policy to look intentionally at barriers tied to income, transportation and neighborhood when designing programs and services. Placing cash-accepting machines across the county applies that lens to a basic government service that residents are required to use.
Modernizing the Payment Process
The kiosks are the latest step in an ongoing effort to modernize tax systems. Over the past few years, we have upgraded these systems through a multi-stage effort aimed at improving digital tools and payment options, focusing on convenience, speed and reliability.
