As the Franconia-Springfield Planning Study progresses, new planning ideas have been drafted for the future of the area.
The concepts and ideas are compiled in a new community survey and were created with community feedback from Fall 2025 outreach. Residents and visitors of the Franconia-Springfield area are encouraged to participate in the community survey to help guide future changes and improvements for the next 20 years or more. Launched in Fall 2025, the study will review and update the Comprehensive Plan for the Franconia-Springfield area — from Springfield Plaza to Inova HealthPlex, including Springfield Town Center, the GSA warehouse, and surrounding areas.
The Comprehensive Plan guides the county’s land use and development decisions. The adopted Springfield Plan contains a framework for various land use topics, however, it has not been fully reviewed in more than 15 years. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and features three main ideas for future development of Franconia-Springfield. Community feedback will be used to guide changes and improvements in the area for the next 20 years and beyond.
