The Roundtable was established in 2024 based on a recommendation from the Chairman’s Task Force on Equity and Opportunity to “Establish a Community Advisory Board, with representation by Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and low-income individuals, to monitor the degree to which each county agency has prioritized the needs of BIPOC and lower income communities.” This recommendation was subsequently included in the Countywide Strategic Plan.
The Roundtable consists of 19 members recommended to the Fairfax County Chief Equity Officer from the Board of Supervisors. There ae nine members representing each Fairfax County magisterial district based on recommendations from the Board of Supervisors and up to ten at-large members recommended by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. The Roundtable’s membership consists of individuals representative of and low-income communities, women, people living with disabilities, individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+, and other underrepresented groups.
Each Roundtable member serves a two-year term on alternating annual calendar year cycles. Membership is limited to two two-year terms. The Roundtable, by the majority vote, elects two members to serve as co-chairs. The Roundtable’s Executive Committee also consists of members who serve as Equity Champions for key action areas.

Equity Action Teams (EAT)
Under the structure of the Roundtable, Equity Action Teams (EATs) focused on specific topic areas are convened by the Roundtable as a vehicle for better understanding and addressing the intersecting and compounding factors that contribute to Fairfax County’s equity challenges. Following Fairfax County’s Inclusive Community Engagement Spectrum, EATs are convened to ‘Contribute’ and/or ‘Collaborate’ on either:
- the development of a county policy, practice, and/or strategy; or
- the identification of innovative cross-sector strategies to address an identified equity challenge.
Based on the topic, EATs can consist of Roundtable members, residents, and representatives of the civic, faith, nonprofit, philanthropic, academic, and business communities and are supported by county government staff. EAT membership is a balance of technical expertise, live experience, and diverse and inclusive representation related to the topic. Priority to county residents who have not had an opportunity to engage in the public process at this level with the County.
