Bike Parking Facilities

Bike rooms are members only enclosed, secure bicycle parking facilities within or near transit stations and other transit facilities. Bike rooms features ample parking with a combination of floor mounted bicycle racks as well as vertical space-saver racks. For more information on each bike room facility and how to purchase a membership:

  • Wiehle-Reston East Station & Stringfellow Park & Ride Bike Rooms

A bicycle locker is simply a garage for your bike. It provides a way to store your bicycle securely out of the elements of rain, sun and snow. They are usually located at transit transfer centers such as park and ride facilities.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation currently manages bicycle lockers at the following locations:

Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride
12530 Sunrise Valley Drive
Ten lockers are located at the east end of the bus platform.

Reston South Park and Ride
2531 Reston Parkway
Ten lockers are located on the platform adjacent to the bus shelters.

Reston Town Center Transit Station
12051 Bluemont Way
Ten lockers are located on the island adjacent to Bluemont Way.

Spring Hill Metro Station Kiss and Ride
1576 Spring Hill Rd, Tysons, VA 22182
Ten lockers owned and operated by Fairfax County are located on the east side of the Metro Station.

Burke Centre VRE Station
10399 Premier Court, Burke
Ten lockers are located in the bus loading area against the parking garage wall.

Backlick Road VRE Station
6900 Hechinger Driver, Springfield
Ten lockers are located on the walkway in front of the platform.

Note: Secure bicycle storage also can be found at the Wiehle-Reston East Station and Stringfellow Park and Ride. Join one of these bike rooms today!

Both the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) lease bicycle lockers too. WMATA provides lockers at most Metrorail stations. You can get additional information about these lockers by calling the WMATA Bicycle Information Line 24 hours a day at (202) 962-1116. VDOT leases lockers at state-owned/maintained park and ride lots in Fairfax County as well as Prince William and Loudoun Counties. For Information and availability, contact VDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Coordinator at (703) 383-2233.

Not sure? Give us a call at 703-324-BIKE(2453), TTY: 711, or use our contact form and we’ll help you get started.

Currently there is no waiting list…lockers are available at all three locations. To rent a locker download and print the PDF version of the Bicycle Locker Application and the Bicycle Locker User Agreement. Please note that Adobe® Reader® software is required to view PDF files. Mail the completed application, your payment, and user agreement to:

Fairfax County Department of Transportation
Bicycle Locker Program
4050 Legato Road
Suite 400
Fairfax, VA 22033-2895

If you do not have access to a printer you can call us at 703-324-BIKE(2453), TTY: 711, and we'll be happy to send you the forms.

Not yet. We do intend to have a web-based application and payment system option in the future, but currently, you’ll have to submit your completed application, user agreement and payment by mail.

The yearly rental fee is $60 (think of it as just $5 per month). In addition there is a one-time administrative fee of $10 (this is non-refundable) and a key deposit of $50 (refundable when you return your key).

So if you are a firt time user you will pay $120. After that it is just $60 per year to continue to rent the locker. Please make checks payable to Fairfax County.

Fairfax County specs their bicycle lockers with a highly secure key system. It costs a little more but it provides enhanced security for the user. Therefore, replacement costs are higher, and, if you run off with the key, we need to do a whole lot of work to make the locker safe and secure for the next user. The moral of the story…return your key when the lease expires.

You and the bicycle locker manager. The Fairfax County Department of Transportation reserves the right to inspect and maintain the lockers and make sure they are being used for their intended purpose. Believe it or not, there have been cases of people using them to store everything but a bicycle.

If the locker is vandalized and/or a theft has occurred, please notify Fairfax County Police at their non-emergency phone number (703) 691-2131. If there is a maintenance problem (e.g. lock jammed, door sticking, etc.), call (703) 324-BIKE (2453) or use our contact form to notify us.

The bicycle lockers are owned and operated by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation.
