About the CSB
The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) is the public agency that plans, organizes and provides services for people of all ages in our community who have mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or intellectual disability. The CSB also provides early intervention services for infants and toddlers who have developmental delays.
Our CSB serves residents of Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church. We are one of 40 Community Services Boards in the Commonwealth of Virginia. State law requires every jurisdiction to have a CSB. We operate as part of Fairfax County government’s human services system.
Our staff and contracted services providers include psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, counselors, therapists, case managers, peer specialists, and “behind the scenes” administrative and support staff. We partner with community organizations, faith communities, businesses, schools and other local government agencies in many ways to provide the services people need, and to be good neighbors in the community.
Who is eligible for our services?
We serve people of all ages who have mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or intellectual disability. Most non-emergency CSB services are primarily for people whose conditions seriously impact their daily functioning. For example, women and girls who are pregnant, intravenous drug users, and people asking for treatment for abuse of opioid drugs (including prescription drugs) have priority for substance use disorder services. However, anyone with a related concern may contact the CSB for help in finding appropriate treatment and resources. All children up to age three who have developmental delays and meet certain criteria are eligible for Infant and Toddler Connection services.

What services does the CSB provide?
Since many people who seek CSB services have "co-occurring" disorders, such as mental illness and substance use disorder, our services are categorized not by specific disability but by how they are provided. For example, acute/therapeutic services include detoxification, crisis/emergency response, and residential therapeutic treatment services for individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. CSB also provides services such as employment and day support, case management, supported housing and other services to help individuals live successfully in the community.
Some services are provided by CSB staff. Others are provided through contracts with local partner organizations.
Where are services provided?
Services are provided in a variety of settings throughout the county – in an office, in a group home or residential setting, or out in the community. Visit our Locations page for more information.
Is there a fee for services?
Fees are charged to help offset the cost of providing CSB services. If you are eligible for CSB services and have health insurance, the CSB can file claims and accept reimbursement with most health insurance plans.
