Fairfax County worked with the Springfield community to raise the visibility and image of the area through a branding campaign. This community collaboration led to four updated gateway signs installed at major entrances to the commercial area, complementing a landmark gateway sign on the pedestrian bridge of the new Springfield Commuter Business Center Community Parking Garage.

Branding package for Gateway signage completed in 2020
The investment expanded the community branding work and commuter garage gateway sign to create a network of four welcome signs.
Leveraged an additional $161,000 in funding from re-purposing of expiring development proffers, as well as residual revitalization bond funds, in addition to the allocation of approx. $100,000 in Federal transportation project fund to construct the 5th flagship gateway signage as part of the new Springfield Commuter Parking Garage.
35,000-60,000 vehicles drive past the welcome and gateway signs each day, (based on VDOT traffic counts at Old Keene Mill and Backlick Road).
Engaged over 1,000 community and civic association members in brand development, through participation in community surveys and public meetings.
