Meet Katie!
Position: Assistant Program Manager with the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in the Adult and Aging Division.
My role in the Department of Family Services (DFS) is a combination of all my professional passions. I work with amazing supervisors and teams to support our mission of helping people remain independent in the community. These programs include the Home Delivered Meal Program, the Congregate Nutrition Program, Caregiver and Support Services, and the Aging, Disability, and Caregiver Resource (ADCR) Line.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and joined the county in June 2023. I have a background as a hospice social worker, and then as a clinical case manager and director of a Meals on Wheels program in Richmond, VA. Most recently, I did government affairs and advocacy at Meals on Wheels America, focusing on aging services and policies, including the Older Americans Act.
The most rewarding aspect of my work is the people I work with! There are amazing, smart, capable, and thoughtful people at DFS. I’ve learned so much since I’ve started this role. Other people should work here because the impactful, effective, and creative programs and services that DFS provides makes a difference in our community. It’s also a great opportunity to work with other talented clinicians!
I come from a long line of social workers – probably too many for one family! But outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my family, reading, taking care of my plants and balcony garden, and trying to get outside as much as possible.
