Sale of Unlisted Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms

A number of smoke and CO alarms being sold on e-commerce sites have not been tested by Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories, thus do not meet current product safety standards.


Battery Storage and Disposal

Since the turn of the year, four fires have occurred in Fairfax County that were caused by batteries.  In 2018, batteries were the cause of five fires.  The Fire & Rescue Department encourages people to follow instructions on how to properly store and discard batteries on the battery brand's website or by clicking the link below for suggestions to prevent an accidental battery fire from the Fire Marshal's Office.


Sink It or Soak It!

Since January 1, 2019, there have been eight fires caused by improperly discarded smoking materials!  Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department urges all residents who smoke to "Sink It or Soak It!" and prevent careless fires.
