Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at approximately 3 a.m., in the Franconia area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 5412 Hopark Drive.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire on the roof of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Sounding smoke alarms provided early warning for the lone occupant; however, a dog perished in the fire. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupant. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.

According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire was accidental. An electrical anomaly in the electrical power feed into the home caused the fire.
