Early Voting for Braddock District Special Election Runs Oct. 24 to Dec. 6

Early voting for the Dec. 9 Braddock District Special Election begins Friday, Oct. 24, at the Fairfax County Government Center and extends to the Burke Centre Library on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The Braddock District Board of Supervisors seat is vacant following the election of former supervisor James Walkinshaw to Congress.

Only voters who live in the Braddock District are eligible to vote. 

 

 

Dates and Details

Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 323, Fairfax
Oct. 24- Dec. 6:

  • Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (including Nov. 4, General Election Day)
  • Saturdays (Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6): 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 26: 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Closed Tuesday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) and Thursday–Friday, Nov. 27–28 (Thanksgiving holidays)

Nov. 29- Dec. 6:

  • Monday through Friday: 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Saturdays (Nov. 29 and Dec. 6): 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

On Election Day, Tuesday, Dec. 9, Braddock voters must vote at their assigned precinct polling place .

 

Need to Register or Check Your Registration?

The in-person deadline to register normally or update your registration is Monday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. You can use the Virginia Department of Elections citizen portal to register and update your address (also to vote by mail, join the permanent absentee list, find your polling place or check your voting history.)

Same-day registration for the Braddock District special election is available at early voting sites during Braddock voting periods — Oct. 24–Nov. 4 and Nov. 29–Dec. 6 — and at polling places on Election Day, Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Voters who register the same day will cast a provisional ballot that is reviewed and counted after Election Day.

 

Curbside Voting

Curbside voting is available for voters with a disability or who are 65 or older. When you arrive, look for the “Curbside Voting” sign near the accessible parking area and call the phone number on the sign to contact an election officer.

 

What Identification Do I Need?

You will be asked to show identification when you vote. Acceptable ID includes:

  • A photo ID such as a Virginia driver’s license (even if expired), a government-issued ID or a Virginia college ID.
  • A current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or a government document that includes your name and current address.

Alternatively, you may complete and sign an ID Confirmation Statement.

 

Vote By Mail

You can apply for a vote-by-mail ballot either online or on paper. The deadline is Monday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. For the online application, you’ll need your Social Security number and a Virginia driver’s license or DMV-issued ID.

Alternatively, you can download, print and complete the vote-by-mail application form (including your handwritten signature), pick up a preprinted application at Fairfax County governmental centers or library branches, or stop by the Office of Elections at the Government Center.

Ballots are sent within three business days after your application is approved. Delivery times vary depending on the U.S. Postal Service.
