
Paul D. Thomas
Paul D. Thomas was appointed to the Planning Commission by the Board of Supervisors in August 2026 to represent the Hunter Mill District. His term will expire in December 2029.
Commissioner Thomas has served as a member of the original Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force, the Board of Governors for the Reston Community Center, Fairfax County’s Human Services Council, and Fairfax County’s Successful Children and Youth Policy Team.
Mr. Thomas has also served on the boards for several community nonprofits including the Board of Directors for Reston Association, and South Lakes High School’s PTSA and Band Boosters.
Commissioner Thomas works as an education consultant who specializes in math and computer science curriculum development. He has spent the past 30 years developing research-driven curricula for small startups, public corporations, and nonprofits. His work includes dozens of courses for virtual, blended, and traditional classroom contexts as well as a dozen textbooks. Paul taught high school math and computer science in Fairfax County and holds degrees in Mathematics and Operations Research from George Mason University.
Mr. Thomas, his wife, and their two children all grew up in Reston and graduated from South Lakes High School.
