Support Our Pet Supply Drive and Keep Pets with Their Families

At the Department of Family Services, we care deeply about every family member, including your beloved pets. To help ensure pets can stay with their families, we are excited to host a Pet Supply Drive from Sunday, May 11 – Saturday, May 24 during National Pet Month this May. Your generous donations will directly benefit pets in need, helping them remain with their loving families.

  • In times of financial hardship, people may make the difficult decision to surrender their pets to the animal shelter.
  • People in need can get free pet supplies, like pet food and cat litter, from Fairfax County Animal Shelter’s Pet Pantry.
  • DFS helps families seeking food, financial and medical assistance. Helping pets is another way DFS supports families. 
  • DFS cares about every family member, including pets, so we are sponsoring a pet supply drive during National Pet Month in May to collect donations for Fairfax County Animal Shelter’s Pet Pantry.
  • DFS will be collecting donations from Sunday, May 11, to Saturday, May 24, at seven locations throughout Fairfax County.
  • The goal of the drive is to restock the Pet Pantry at both shelter locations.

Support the DFS Pet Supply Drive!

Sometimes, people must make the difficult decision to surrender their pet to the animal shelter. There are many reasons why pets are surrendered, such as when a pet guardian can no longer care for their pet, or a family moves out of the country. In cases where a pet guardian is considering surrendering their pet due to financial hardship, there are services and resources available from the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, such as their Pet Pantry, to help pets remain with the people they love. 

The Department of Family Services cares about every family member, including pets. To help keep pets with their families, DFS is hosting a pet supply drive during National Pet Month in May. The drive will run from Sunday, May 11, to Saturday, May 24, with all donations benefiting Fairfax County Animal Shelter’s Pet Pantry.

The Public Assistance and Employment Services Division of DFS helps families in need of food, financial, or medical assistance.
