All relationships need healthy boundaries--appropriate behavior that keeps everybody in the relationship safe. This is especially true in intimate partnerships. And, in an age where our lives are increasingly lived online, it is crucial that we set digital boundaries, as well. What do healthy digital boundaries look like?
- Saying no to location sharing, even if you’re dating or married
- Not pressuring someone to “prove” love with screenshots
- Having conversations about what you’re comfortable sharing online
- Muting or unfollowing accounts that make you feel uncomfortable
- Not being required to share passwords
If someone monitors your devices, tracks your location, demands you share your passwords, constantly checks your online activity, or harasses you through digital channels, it’s beyond a boundary issue--it's abuse.

If you or someone you know is experiencing interpersonal violence, call the Domestic and Sexual Violence 24-Hour Hotline at 703-360-7273 for resources and support. If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1.
