On April 30, AARP Virginia and Fairfax County’s Silver Shield Program hosted Scam Jam 2026 at the Fairfax County Government Center.
Members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors welcomed guests to the annual event and read a proclamation recognizing May as Older Americans and Adult Abuse Prevention Month in Fairfax County.
Now in its ninth year, Scam Jam 2026 focused on two of the fastest growing threats: romance based investment schemes and cryptocurrency fraud. Keynote speaker Erin Scheithe, with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, spoke on the topic of Protecting Consumers and Investors from Fraud. This was followed by a panel discussion led by Trudy Marotta, Community Ambassador, AARP Virginia, with representatives from the Fairfax County Police Department, U.S. Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Postal Service. The panelists shared stories and answered questions from the audience about frauds and scams.
Attendees enjoyed a free lunch, provided by AARP Virginia, and were invited to attend a resource fair where representatives from federal, state and county agencies and nonprofits shared information and resources to protect yourself from frauds and scams.
AARP Virginia and Fairfax County Silver Shield Anti-Scam Program thank everyone for attending Scam Jam 2026!
