Medical Examination

The medical examination is conducted in-house by the Fairfax County Public Safety Occupational Health Center (PSOHC). Applicants must receive an "A" classification on their medical exam to continue in the selection process. A Class “C” physical means that the applicant has an opportunity to correct an area of the medical exam that prevented them from receiving a Class “A”. Class D physical means the applicant is no longer considered in the application process however, depending on the circumstances, Class D physicals can be corrected. Applicants should follow-up with PSOHC to see if this is an option.

You will be notified of your classification by PSOHC. This examination can take up to four hours to complete. All medical information is between PSOHC and the applicant. The Recruitment section is notified only of Class rating.

Polygraph 

The polygraph is conducted by a certified polygraph examiner through the Fairfax County Police Department.

The polygraph evaluation measures the accuracy of information provided during the selection process. This evaluation can take up to four hours to complete.

Psychological Profile Evaluation 

The Psychological Profile Evaluation is conducted by ThinkBlot Behavioral Sciences. This evaluation measures the psychological suitability for a career in the FCFRD. It consists of several written tests and a structured clinical interview. This test can take up to eight hours to complete.
