Fairfax County to Expand Capital Bikeshare Network with 27 New Stations; Installations Begin in May 2026

Capital Bikeshare is expanding in Fairfax County, with 27 new stations – the largest expansion in the program’s history – scheduled for installation beginning in early May. The expansion will introduce new stations in Annandale, Bailey's Crossroads and Seven Corners, bringing new, affordable travel options to more communities. Additional stations will also be added in the Belle Haven and Huntington areas, and along the Mount Vernon Trail.

Work at each site is expected to be completed in a single day, weather permitting. Once a station is installed and powered, it will be stocked with bicycles and opened to the public shortly afterward. The new Capital Bikeshare stations will be installed at the following intersections:

Annandale

  • Ravensworth Drive and Jayhawk Drive
  • Heritage Drive and Rectory Drive
  • Little River Turnpike and Annandale Road
  • Little River Turnpike and Medford Drive
  • Daniels Avenue and Poplar Street
  • Americana Drive and Americana Place
  • Patriot Drive and Inverton Drive 

Bailey’s Crossroads

  • Route 7 and Jefferson Street
  • George Mason Drive and Seminary Road
  • Columbia Pike and Carlin Springs Road
  • Columbia Pike and Carlin Springs Road South
  • Glen Carlyn Drive and Argyle Drive

Seven Corners 

  • Cherry Street and Lawndale Drive
  • Patrick Henry Drive and Brook Drive
  • Peyton Randolph Drive and Willston Drive
  • Patrick Henry Drive and Willston Drive

Belle Haven

  • Belle View Boulevard and 10th Street
  • Wakefield Drive and Potomac Avenue
  • Belle View Boulevard and 13th St South

Huntington

  • North Kings Highway and Poag Street
  • North Kings Highway and Fort Drive
  • Huntington Metro South
  • Fairhaven Avenue and Monticello Road

Mount Vernon Trail

  • Belle Haven Park
  • Riverside Park
  • Mt. Vernon Estate
  • Fort Hunt Park

These new locations will improve connections to nearby bus routes, shopping centers, schools, parks and trails. With more than 40,000 trips taken last year within the county, residents are finding Capital Bikeshare to be a useful transportation alternative for a wide variety of everyday trips, including:

  • Connecting to and from Metrorail, Fairfax Connector and Metrobus
  • Running errands
  • Going to medical and other appointments
  • Shopping or visiting restaurants
  • Enjoying fun rides along local trails and bike routes
  • Making convenient one-way trips without needing to return a car
  • Replacing short car trips with a low-cost, active transportation option

Capital Bikeshare for All

“By expanding Capital Bikeshare into more neighborhoods and communities of opportunity, we’re making it easier for people to connect to transit, jobs, schools, services and recreation without relying on a car,” Mason District Supervisor Andres Jimenez said. “This expansion supports our goals for equity, sustainability and safer, more accessible travel options for everyone.”

Fairfax County and Capital Bikeshare are committed to making bikeshare accessible and affordable. The Capital Bikeshare for All program offers qualifying households significantly discounted annual memberships that provide unlimited 60-minute classic bike rides, discounted e-bike rates, a $40 monthly credit to help cover ride rates and out-of-station parking charges for e-bikes, and more. About Capital Bikeshare in Fairfax County

With this expansion, Fairfax County will have more than 100 stations across the county, including stations at all 13 Metrorail stations in the county. Riders can purchase single trips, day passes or memberships and can find and unlock bikes using the Capital Bikeshare mobile app or station kiosks. Real-time information on station locations and bike and dock availability is available through the Capital Bikeshare app and website.
