Project Description

The Sunrise Valley Drive Walkway project will install the missing pedestrian facilities and improve existing facilities along the north side of Sunrise Valley Drive, from Reston Parkway to Soapstone Drive. The walkway will provide connections from the Reston Town Center Metrorail Station to adjacent neighborhoods and enhance pedestrian mobility along the corridor. 

This project consists of construction of a 10-foot-wide walkway in three proposed, separate segments:

1. Reston Parkway to just east of the Exxon Gas Station
2. The Sheraton Hotel Entrance extending 130 feet west
3. Soapstone Drive  extending 260 feet west. The third segment of the project includes an unsignalized crossing at Indian Ridge Road.

The total length of the walkway connection is approximately 1,490 linear feet. Other improvements include, but not limited to: 

• American with Disability Acts (ADA) compliant curb ramps
• High visibility crosswalks
• New lightings and pedestrian signals at the intersection of Colts Neck Road
• A median refuge island at the intersection of Indian Ridge Road 
   

Project Schedule:

The project received all necessary permits to start construction in November 2025. The construction of the project will begin in April 2026 and anticipated to be completed by November 2026.
