On Thursday, April 9, 2020, a crew from DVS and DPWES gathered at the Department of Vehicle Services' Alban Maintenance Facility to plant 15 native canopy trees as part of ongoing efforts to improve the wildlife habitat and stormwater absorption and treatment in and around the pollinator meadow that was developed during phase one of the project. The team cheerfully followed instructions from Hugh, the Stormwater Management Division's tireless Urban Forester, who hand pruned each root ball and provided guidance on measuring the holes and planting the trees. The soil was challenging, but with the care and muscle of the group, and the help of Alan Crofford of the Park Authority who augured the holes in locations marked by Suzy Foster, Landscape Architect III with the Stormwater Planning Division, the crew prevailed. Watching these trees establish and grow to shade Alban's entry drive will be rewarding through the years.
