The Regional Peer Recovery Specialists (PRS) and Family Support Partners (FSP) Program was created to establish dedicated capacity at the Northern Virginia Regional Projects Office (NVRPO) to support local, regional, and state level PRS and FSP initiatives and to serve as the regional subject matter expert.
Role of the PRS/FSP Regional Coordinator
Under the general supervision of the Regional Manager of Community Programs and funded through the STEP-VA Peer and Family Support Initiative, the Regional Coordinator will bring together PRS and FSP throughout the region as a community of providers, including both established Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS) and those new to the field exploring peer certification, and Family Support Partner (FSP) providers. Coordinators are also responsible for providing professional support for the unique needs of this discipline to include identifying and sharing opportunities for Regional PRSs and FSPs to complete the required 500 hours of documented work experience (paid or volunteer), coaching, and mentoring through the certification process, and advanced skill building, training, and professional development. They work closely with the Region 2 Recovery Oriented Services Coordinator (ROSC) with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and the Office of Recovery Services (ORS). Region 2 consists of 5 Community Services Boards (CSBs), including Alexandria City, and the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William. Region 2 also includes various Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs) and other peer-run programs as community stakeholders.
