The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) invites public comment on a Request for Release of Funds and Finding of No Significant Impact for The Commons.  Comments will be accepted through close of business on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.  Click here for more information.

The renovation and adaptive reuse project of the Commons will provide pathways to opportunity for the community, with a focus on education, workforce development and life skills training programs. The new 149,000 square foot facility is a blend of new construction and historic renovation designed with flexibility in mind to accommodate the diverse programming needs of the community. The project supports the vision of One Fairfax and the County Strategic Plan.

HCD has determined that the project will have no significant impact on the human environment. Following the close of public comments, Fairfax County will submit a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the release of Community Project Funding grant.
