When flames are hypothetical and foam flows freely, it’s all part of the plan. On July 16, the Noman M. Cole Jr. Water Recycling Facility hosted a high-stakes training exercise with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department to simulate a methanol spill response.
Crews from Fire Stations 14 and 19 rolled in with foam trailers and full gear, while plant operations stayed fully functional thanks to coordination by DPWES staff. The drill brought together Wastewater, Capital Facilities, and Safety teams to sharpen emergency response protocols and ensure the facility—and surrounding community—are always prepared.
So, what does a simulated chemical emergency really look like?
