Proposed Capital Bikeshare Stations Along the I-66 Corridor
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) held a virtual public meeting to gather input on several newly proposed Capital Bikeshare stations along the I-66 corridor in the Providence, Braddock and Springfield Districts.
An online survey to provide feedback is available now through May 1, 2026.
When you need to get from Point A to Point B with more than two feet but less than four wheels, borrowing a bicycle with Capital Bikeshare might be your answer! Capital Bikeshare is a regional bicycle transit system jointly owned by Fairfax County, Arlington County, City of Alexandria, City of Fairfax, City of Falls Church, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County and the District of Columbia.
Fairfax County’s Capital Bikeshare began in 2016 with 18 stations in the Reston and Tysons communities. Today, Fairfax County has 96 Capital Bikeshare stations located across county – including a Capital Bikeshare station at every Metrorail station in Fairfax County. The county’s Capital Bikeshare fleet now numbers more than 500 bikes – over 200 of which are electric bikes!

Capital Bikeshare provides a variety of pricing alternatives, including single rides, day passes and annual memberships. Riders can pick the option that best suits their needs. See pricing options.
The Capital Bikeshare for All program provides discounted memberships for residents who qualify for state or federal assistance programs. For just $5 per year, qualified members receive:
Unlimited bike rides under 60 minutes
Discounted rates on e-bikes
A $40 monthly ride credit to help cover ride time for per-minute e-bike rates, per-minute rates for classic bike rides longer than 60 minutes, and out-of-station parking charges for e-bikes.
Capital Bikeshare also offers Corporate Programs, allowing businesses subsidize Capital Bikeshare annual memberships for their employees - providing an easy, convenient and sustainable option for getting around the Washington, D.C. Metro area.

FCDOT held a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, to discuss a proposal to add up to 17 new Capital Bikeshare stations along the I-66 corridor between Fairfax/Fair Lakes and Dunn Loring.

FCDOT hosted a virtual public meeting on proposed Capital Bikeshare stations in the Braddock and Mason Districts on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024. Residents learned more about plans for bikeshare in the community, asked questions and provided feedback. The station installations are anticipated to occur in Spring 2026.
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation held a virtual meeting on expanding the Capital Bikeshare network in the Mount Vernon District on Jan. 18, 2024. FCDOT staff presented information on 12 proposed bikeshare stations around the Huntington Metro Station, Fort Hunt Park and Mount Vernon Trail. Installation of the stations along Huntington Avenue and at the Huntington North Metro entrance were completed in August 2025. The remaining station installations are anticipated to occur in Spring 2026.

(COMPLETE) Huntington Avenue and Old Richmond Highway
August 2025: Expansion of Capital Bikeshare to locations at the Huntington (Mount Vernon District) and Innovation Center (Dranesville and Hunter Mill Districts) Metro Stations and the surrounding areas.
Mount Vernon District: Presentation; Public Meeting Note: The proposed Mount Vernon Stations will be installed in two phases. Stations along Huntington Avenue and at the Huntington North Metro Entrance have been completed.
November 2022: FCDOT was awarded Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funding for the expansion of the Capital Bikeshare network in Reston and has installed all but one station from the originally-planned 19 locations in 2021.
