Project Description
The Pohick Road Pedestrian Improvements project (Project No. 1400171-25) is intended to enhance pedestrian connectivity and safety along the Pohick Road corridor between Route 1 and the I-95 Bridge.
Proposed improvements include:
- Construction of a 10-foot-wide asphalt walkway with a minimum 4-foot buffer on the south/west side of Pohick Road between Larne Lane and Lorton Station Boulevard.
- Relocation of the pedestrian signal crossing at the south leg of the Lorton Station Boulevard intersection to improve connectivity across the corridor.
- Construction of a 7-foot-wide concrete walkway with at least a 4-foot buffer on the east/north side of Pohick Road between Lorton Station Boulevard and the I-95 Bridge.
- Installation of curb and gutter where appropriate throughout the corridor.
The corridor currently has a mix of segments with 4-foot sidewalks, an 8-foot paved trail and no pedestrian or bicycle facilities.
Estimated project budget is $13 million.

Anticipated Project Schedule

- Intermediate Design: Fall 2026
- Pre-Final Design: Spring 2027
- Final Design: Summer 2029
- Land Acquisition: Fall 2029
- Utility Relocation: Spring 2030
- Notice to Proceed (Construction): Spring 2031
- Construction Completion: Spring 2032
