50th Anniversary of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967
WHEREAS, 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, which prohibits discrimination in the workforce based on age, in hiring, assignment, firing, with respect to benefits and all other aspects of the employment relationship for persons 40 and over, and
WHEREAS, we recognize the importance of the ADEA in addressing the myths and stereotypes driving arbitrary age limits that continue to create barriers to gainful employment of our older workers; and
WHEREAS, we acknowledge the great value and asset older workers are, bringing to the workforce experience, wisdom, leadership, maturity, professionalism and strong work ethics; and
WHEREAS, we remain committed to promoting the employment of older workers based on their ability and not their age; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, on behalf of all the residents of Fairfax County, urges all residents to observe the 50th anniversary of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 and celebrate the important occasion in the history of our nation.
