December 3-7, 2018 Inclusive Schools Week

 

            WHEREAS;

The Inclusive Schools Network and Schools around the world have designated the week of December 3 – 7, 2018 as INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS WEEK; and,

            WHEREAS;

the Board of Supervisors in Fairfax County recognizes that inclusive education is a set of core beliefs that drives decisions and actions and that reflection helps shape effective practices to meet the needs of all students.

            WHEREAS;

the Board of Supervisors encourages all parents, students, educators and community members to recognize that ALL children provide unique gifts in the classroom and in our neighborhoods.

            WHEREAS;

the Board of Supervisors strives to build a stronger, more inclusive community that is respectful of all children and promotes bully-free and safe school environments.

            WHEREAS;

the Board of Supervisors urges community members to volunteer, connect with students, attend student activities and adopt an inclusive attitude towards children of all abilities.

            THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That FAIRFAX COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS will join with the Inclusive Schools Network, the Fairfax County School System, in conjunction with our community partners from The Arc of Northern Virginia, Fairfax County School System, Special Education PTA, Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, and all Boards and Commissions that work to improve inclusion practices in our community to declare December 3-7 2018 as Inclusive schools week and encourage schools and classrooms across Fairfax County to engage in reflective and relevant learning and community-building activities with this recognition.
