Celebrating the Oak Hill Mansion Open House

Madame Chairman:

Working closely with the Fairfax County Park Authority, we are pleased once again to be co-sponsoring the Oak Hill History Day.

This free program, a celebration of local history, is slated for Saturday, September 26, from noon until 4 P.M. at the historic Oak Hill Mansion, located at 4716 Wakefield Chapel Road in Annandale. Parking will be offsite at 4414 Holborn Avenue at the Nancy Sprague Technology Center in Annandale. A free shuttle bus service will provide visitors with convenient transportation.

The theme this year is Celebrating Oak Hill’s history and connection to Thomas Jefferson.

During the tour, guests will hear presentations on Oak Hill history and architecture, stories of what it was like to live there, and information regarding Thomas Jefferson's visit to the house in April of 1804.  Guests will also learn about Revolutionary War era music with a US Army Old Guard ensemble performance. There will also be free refreshments provided by Annandale High School Culinary Arts.

Celebrating this rich history will help foster a greater sense of community and I encourage citizens from throughout Fairfax County to come out and attend this Oak Hill celebration.

Madame Chairman, without objection we ask that the Office of Public Affairs and Park Authority publicize this event, and would also ask that the Park Authority provide support and assistance in running this program, as they so graciously do every year.
