Celebrating Northern Virginia Community College’s 50 years of serving the Community
Madame Chairman:
It brings us great pleasure to recognize a local institution that has seen a great deal of change throughout its 50 years. Northern Virginia Community College was first established in 1964 under the name Northern Virginia Technical College. When it opened in the fall of 1965, 761 students attended classes in a single building in Bailey’s Crossroads. In 1966, to accommodate the growing student population, the college purchased 78 acres of land in Annandale which created the first campus site.
Today, more than 75,000 students from 150 countries are enrolled at Northern Virginia Community College. The college offers more than 160 associate degree and certificate programs and has grown to include six campuses, three centers, and also provides online learning through the Extended Learning Institute.
Madame Chairman, without objection we ask that the Board of Supervisors invite representatives from Northern Virginia Community College to come before the Board on October 20th so that they may be recognized for the immense contributions they have made to our County.
