Joint Board Matter with Supervisor McKay
September 25, 2018
Madam Chairman:
As was discussed at last week’s Legislative Committee, Fairfax County General District Court is authorized 11 Judge positions, and a recent state survey showed the need for a 12th. Currently the District Court is only carrying 10. These missing positions cause an undue impact on the administration of justice in Fairfax County. If the state funded the full complement of 12 positions, this would not only speed up simple cases, but would also aid in the disposition of our ever-growing Diversion First cases. Therefore, we request that the Board support a request to the state to fund all 12 positions. This request will be made at a presentation before the Committee on District Courts (CDC) on October 16th in Richmond.
Therefore Madam Chairman, we ask that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approve the sending of the attached letter in support of funding 12 judicial positions in the Fairfax General District Court.
