What We’re Doing About It

Our mission is to provide people-centered and efficient customer service to make sure eligible households receive the right benefits. We’re taking action to improve our service:

  • Internal training to strengthen eligibility screening and benefit determinations
  • Process reviews to identify opportunities for improvement in operations and technology
  • Collaboration with the Virginia Department of Social Services to implement best practices and share educational resources with Human Services Workers
  • Communication with our community about SNAP eligibility and benefits
SNAP Payment Accuracy

Every state has a “SNAP Error Rate” that measures the accuracy of the state’s eligibility and benefit determinations. Due to recent federal legislation, states with SNAP Error Rates above six percent will be required to contribute a state funding match for SNAP benefits beginning October 1, 2027. Currently, benefits are paid with 100 percent federal funds.

Since SNAP is administered by the local governments in Virginia, all counties are taking action to improve payment accuracy together. Learn more about SNAP FORWARD.
