Join us this September for Workforce Development Month as we highlight the impact of the Department of Family Services Employment Services’ workforce development programs in the Northern Virginia region.  

Whether entering the workforce for the first time, returning after an extended absence, transitioning after a layoff, or simply seeking a new direction, finding a job can be both challenging and rewarding. Job seekers often face common hurdles like figuring out the right career fit, building skills for today’s economy, and standing out during the application process. A career transition—planned or unexpected—can also bring unique challenges, such as rebuilding confidence, updating skills, or translating past experiences into new opportunities. That’s where we come in – we help people create their success stories every day.

Employment Services supports over 30,000 annual visits to multiple One-Stop Employment Resource Centers, and approximately 3,000 clients who benefit from comprehensive support services and case management. Our employment services help job seekers of all ages and backgrounds, no matter where they are in their employment journey. Workforce development staff provide tailored support, including job search assistance, upskilling opportunities, job readiness training, and access to resources like transportation, child care, and more to overcome barriers to work.

Workforce development supports increased economic mobility in the region for job seekers and their families. When job seekers connect with employment services and gain hands-on job experience, certifications, and more, it improves their qualifications and hiring prospects.
