Get the Right Benefit at the Right Time
SNAP logoThe Public Assistance and Employment Services (PAES) division is on a mission to improve customer service and payment accuracy in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

How You Can Help
If you are applying for or currently participate in SNAP, you can help make sure your household gets the right benefit at the right time.

Use the SNAP Learning Center to watch videos about the SNAP application process, verification requirements, and the SNAP eligibility interview.

Spread the word about SNAP Forward Fairfax with our community engagement toolkit.

Update your phone number and address and tell us when you have changes to your household or employment.

  • Contact your Human Services Worker
  • Online at CommonHelp
  • Call DFS at 703-324-7500
  • Email DFSMyCase@fairfaxcounty.gov

Tip: make sure your voicemail is set up in case we need to reach you!

Renew your SNAP benefits before they expire. Even if nothing has changed with your income or household, you still need to complete your interim report and renewal to keep your benefits.

  • Online at CommonHelp
  • Call the Enterprise Call Center at 855-635-4370

Complete your SNAP interview after submitting your renewal.

Your Human Services Worker will contact you to set up an interview time. Interviews are done by phone or in-person at one of our locations.

What We’re Doing About It

Our mission is to provide people-centered and efficient customer service to make sure eligible households receive the right benefits. We’re taking action to improve our service:

  • Internal training to strengthen eligibility screening and benefit determinations
  • Process reviews to identify opportunities for improvement in operations and technology
  • Collaboration with the Virginia Department of Social Services to implement best practices and share educational resources with Human Services Workers
  • Communication with our community about SNAP eligibility and benefits
SNAP Payment Accuracy

Every state has a “SNAP Error Rate” that measures the accuracy of the state’s eligibility and benefit determinations. Due to recent federal legislation, states with SNAP Error Rates above six percent will be required to contribute a state funding match for SNAP benefits beginning October 1, 2027. Currently, benefits are paid with 100 percent federal funds.

Since SNAP is administered by the local governments in Virginia, all counties are taking action to improve payment accuracy together.
