It is the fundamental component of our community and a foundation from which individuals and families pursue their physical, social, intellectual and economic development. Having a decent, safe, and stable home is essential for county residents of all ages and abilities to achieve their full potential and for Fairfax County to ensure a bright future with thriving communities. 

AFFORDABLE HOUSING.

A hot topic throughout the Washington Metropolitan Region as rapidly rising rents and mortgages are pricing low- and moderate-income households out of the market--leaving them to make hard choices between rent and other necessities or forcing them to move out of the communities where they work. This is an issue that affects EVERYONE - regardless of whether or not your personal housing circumstances are threatened. How can we be a thriving community if the diverse range of workers it takes to build, maintain and grow the quality of life we have come to expect in Fairfax County cannot afford to live here? 

IT'S TIME TO ELEVATE THE CONVERSATION.

Fairfax County has committed to a "No Net Loss" of existing affordable homes and to producing a minimum of 5,000 new affordable homes by 2034. Through this annual event, we will bring together industry professionals, policy experts, housing advocates and neighbors to highlight our successes, learn what neighboring jurisdictions are doing, and develop new creative solutions for meeting the increasing need for housing that is affordable to residents at all levels of the income spectrum. Join us for the 2021 Housing Symposium as we will take an in-depth look at housing as "A Foundation for Strong Economies, Healthy Communities, and Thriving Schools."
