Finding an Affordable Home

The following resources are intended to provide potential leads and/or resources to assist you in your search for affordable housing. This is not intended to serve as a complete listing of all affordable housing available in Fairfax County. Vacancies are not guaranteed.

  • Emergency Housing Vouchers: The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) has a limited number of Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV) available to individuals and families that are homeless, recently homeless, at risk of homelessness, or are fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking.  EHVs are only available to individuals and families referred directly from the Fairfax County Continuum of Care (CoC). • Privately Owned Affordable Rental Housing: Fairfax County has a wide variety of “committed affordable” rental housing options where the units are not owned or operated by the county. Rents at “committed affordable” properties are guaranteed by agreement with federal, state, or local governments, to be affordable to households with low- and moderate-income for a specified period of time. Units in this category include those provided through programs like the county’s Affordable Dwelling Unit and Workforce Dwelling Unit Programs, or the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program. All properties included in this section are privately owned and operated. Interested applicants should contact each participating property’s leasing office directly for inquiries related to vacancies, eligibility, applications, rents, and more.

Fairfax County offers two primary Affordable Homeownership Programs which provide low- and moderate-income households with the opportunity to purchase homes at prices well below market rates. Available properties are listed through both the First-Time Homebuyers Program and the Workforce Dwelling Unit Homebuyers Program. See our website for additional details at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/housing/homeownership/programs.
