CALL TO ORDER:

Commission Chair Crawford called the Commission Meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, to order at 7:30 P.M.

 

Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Commissioner Bokhari and seconded by Commissioner Crawford that the May 21, 2025, agenda be approved as presented. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. The motion passed by unanimous vote.  

 

Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Bokhari that the April 16, 2025, minutes be approved as presented.  The motion passed, with Commissioners Bokhari and Malik abstaining.

 

It was moved by Commissioner Shumaker and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that the March 19, 2025, minutes be approved as amended. The motion passed, with Commissioner Supinger Commissioner Hudson abstaining.

 

STAFF ISSUES: Director Simms informed the commission that the Housing summit went very well and was a very informative event. The program will air on Channel 16 in about a week.

 

Director Simms introduced Deanda Shelton, the new Housing Specialist, to the Commissioners.

 

COMMISSION BUSINESS:

 

FIR- HRC # 2024049H / HUD # 03-25-5673-8: Riley, Ayona v. 29SC Shelby Property Owner et al.: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Crawford that the complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Fairfax County Fair Housing Act has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote. 

 

FIR- HRC # 2023057H / HUD # 03-25-3730-8: Chau v. Cimmaron Oaks et al.: It was moved by Commissioner Hudson and seconded by Commissioner Bokhari that the complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Fairfax County Fair Housing Act has occurred, consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote. 

 

Successful Conciliation HRC # 2024054H / HUD # 03-25-5679-8 - Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Woodside Apartments: It was moved by Commissioner Crawford and seconded by Commissioner Supinger that the successful conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Successful Conciliation. HRC # 2024062H / HUD # 03-25-5728-8 - Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Iyer Rajan S Tr, et al.: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Hudson that the successful conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Successful Conciliation – HRC # 2024030H / HUD # 03-24-5099-8 - Obied, Mahdi v. Naderi, Nilofar: It was moved by Commissioner Shumaker and seconded by Commissioner Crawford that the successful conciliation agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed unanimously.

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNS: Commissioner Malik proposed another date for the website photo. Director Simms will arrange a photographer and provide dates either June or July. Commissioners voted for July any time after the Holiday weekend.
