Background:
This coming Memorial Day weekend will mark the 40th anniversary of Viva Vienna! Hosted by the Rotary Club of Vienna, this popular annual festival celebrates the unity and strength of the Vienna community and honors Memorial Day. Viva Vienna! has grown over the years to become a major fundraiser for the Rotary Club, which each year supports more than 70 local charitable, educational, and community groups. Working in concert with the Town of Vienna, the Rotary Club puts on a first-class event that draws thousands to the historic areas of Vienna, which include the Freeman House, Old Vienna Railroad Station, the Caboose, W&OD Trail, and Church Street. Viva Vienna! truly is a model of a community event, providing a fun family weekend for residents and visitors, and providing much needed funds to support the community throughout the year.
Motion:
Therefore, Mr. Chairman, I would ask without objection that we invite representatives of the Rotary Club of Vienna, along with Town of Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert, to receive a proclamation recognizing the 40th Anniversary of Viva Vienna! at the May 21 Board of Supervisors meeting.
