Board Matter Oct. 27, 2026
Background: Former Reston Community Center Board of Governors member Paul Thomas stepped down from his position on September 14, leaving a vacancy on the nine-member RCC Board. As the Board may be aware, he resigned his position after I appointed him as the Hunter Mill District representative on the Planning Commission.
Under RCC’s governing procedures, the Board of Supervisors makes appointments to fill vacant seats that occur in between the center’s community selection process for its board called the Preference Poll.
To fill this vacant seat, I will move today to appoint Reston resident Daton Lynch to fill this board position for the remainder of the term that ends on November 6, 2028.
He will bring a background in youth recreation and community service to the position, including his service with the Reston Swim Team Association as a Hunters Woods representative and coaching with Reston Hoops. Beyond Reston, Lynch, who is an attorney, has also served as a Fairfax County Consumer Protection Commissioner and as state policy counsel for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Motion: Therefore, Mr. Chairman, I ask without objection that the Board of Supervisors appoint Daton Lynch to the Reston Community Center’s Board of Governors in time to be seated at their next board meeting on November 2.
