With Chairman Jeffery C. McKay
Background: Following the Gold medal victories by the U.S. women’s and men’s hockey teams at the Winter Olympics, I want to recognize our own championship ice hockey team right here in the Hunter Mill District.

In a historic milestone, the James Madison High School Varsity Ice Hockey Team won the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League Championships on Feb. 27. This is the first ever state championship for the Warhawks ice hockey, and they brought home the trophy in a 3-2 victory against Independence.
Congratulations to the entire team for their hard-fought victory, as well as to Captain Luke Sangkharat, freshman Senzo Cesari, and freshman Nate Harlow for scoring the Warhawks three goals during this championship game.
For those who aren’t familiar with the hockey program, the team is made up of James Madison students, and the overall hockey program is co-ed, welcoming both young men and women as student-athletes. And, note that the team’s home rink is SkateQuest in Reston which is also in the Hunter Mill District.
The Warhawks are led by Coach Steve Diamond, himself a James Madison alumnus and former NVSHL program player. Notably, he volunteers his time to coach, reflecting the community’s pride and commitment. I also want to recognize Jen Cooper, the team’s manager who has played a key role in coordinating and supporting the program. And, of course, the many parents who spend countless hours supporting their students deserve special recognition for everything they do.
Motion: Therefore, Mr. Chairman, I ask without objection that the Office of Public Affairs prepare a resolution to recognize the Madison Varsity Ice Hockey Team for their championship win to be presented in the Board room at a future date.
