Summary
- A new permanent drop box to return vote-by-mail ballots has been installed in the North County Government Center lobby.
- Besides this new box in Reston, only two other locations in Fairfax County offer permanent ballot drop boxes so far.
- Supervisor Walter Alcorn supported $45,000 in carryover budget funding to bring this box to Reston to offer voters great convenience and flexibility.
Just in time for the midterm elections, voters in Reston and surrounding communities now have a new, convenient way to return their mail-in ballots. A new permanent ballot drop box has been installed in the lobby of the North County Governmental Center, located at 1801 Cameron Glen Drive in Reston.
The Reston location becomes one of three permanent 24/7 ballot drop boxes available across Fairfax County. Unlike drop boxes at early voting sites — which are only accessible during voting hours — permanent drop boxes remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the election season.
Fairfax County Supervisor Walter Alcorn said he was proud to have supported the budget funding to bring this box to Reston, offering greater convenience and flexibility for voters. The carryover budget, which the Board Supervisors approved on Sept. 15, included $45,000 for the new drop off boxes in Reston and Mount Vernon.
Mail-in Ballot Return Options for the Upcoming Election
For tomorrow’s upcoming election, voters who plan to use the new drop box must return their mail-in ballots there by 7 p.m. on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 3).
Of course, voters may return their mail-in ballots other ways too:
- Election Day Polling Places: Drop boxes are available at all Fairfax County precinct polling locations on Election Day from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. and voters may use the boxes at any polling place across the county.
- By Mail: Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the Office of Elections by noon on the Friday following the election.
