How to Help Your Neighbors in Hunter Mill District

These are some of the nonprofits located in the Hunter Mill District providing assistance with a variety of needs including:

These Reston and Vienna-based nonprofits serve a variety of people, including:

Reston-Based

CORE Foundation
Serves as a charitable incubator by assisting social entrepreneurs with projects that range from the fight against cancer to championing veterans’ issues to battling homelessness and food insecurity. 

Chris Atwood Foundation 
Provides free harm reduction and recovery support services for people impacted by substance abuse. 

Cornerstones
Promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare and other human services. 

Embry Rucker Community Shelter
The Embry Rucker Community Shelter (ERCS) is a 70-bed residential shelter that provides healthy, safe, emergency housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. They help adults transition from homelessness to stable affordable housing.

Fellowship Square Foundation
Operates independent senior housing communities including Lake Anne House and Hunters Woods Fellowship House in Reston. 

Food for Neighbors
Strives to end child hunger by helping middle and high school students who might otherwise go hungry with individual meals and snack items. 

Friends of Southgate Community Center
Provides financial support to the Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate. 

Gabriel Homes
Promotes independence through residential placement, training, and community integration for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Reston and Herndon.  

Helping Hungry Kids of Northern Virginia
Provides weekend food bags and in school snacks to Reston elementary school children who often go hungry on the weekends. 

Herndon-Reston Fish
Provides financial assistance to residents of Herndon and Reston who are experiencing financial crisis. 

Kids R First
Dedicated to the education and helping kids (grades K-12) from families of limited financial means. They provide the necessary school supplies for underserved children so they may receive the same opportunities as their peers.

Reset 180
Partners with community members to prevent and disrupt human trafficking while restoring its survivors. 

Reston for a Lifetime
Provides information for older adults about caregiving, healthy aging, housing, legal help, long term services and supports, paying for care, technology, and transportation, as well as how to create a plan for aging in place in Reston.

RestonStrong
Provides access to fresh produce, dairy and meats, personal hygiene supplies and more. 

Rides for Refugees
Rides for Refugees provides vehicles to low-income refugees permanently resettled in U.S. communities, so they can get to work and become self-reliant.  Vehicles of any kind (cars, SUVs, trucks, etc.) are accepted in any condition.

Simple Gesture
Provides non-perishable food to support our neighbors in Northern Virginia via a large group of volunteer donors and volunteer drivers.  

South Lakes High School Food Pantry
Established to help close the hunger and nutrition gap for the 30% of South Lakes High School students who are the free and reduced lunch program. 

SPARC (Specially Adapted Resource Clubs)
Runs a day program for people with disabilities that operates at the Cathy Hudgins Community Center and other locations in Fairfax County. 

Vienna-Based

Belong
Supports families and children through educational, community engagement and other programs designed to help them succeed.

Committee for Helping Others (CHO)
Provides emergency financial assistance, emergency food aid, clothing, furniture, meals on wheels and transportation to those in need. 

Fairfax Diapers 
Addresses the challenge of diaper insecurity in our community by providing diapers to partner organizations for distribution.

Langley Residential Support Services
Serves adults with developmental disabilities, their families, and our communities by providing quality, comprehensive residential and community support services. 

One Neighborhood Foundation
One Neighborhood Foundation focuses on providing meals and assistance to food insecure families in the area.

Rustic Love
Promotes philanthropy in children and families by creating volunteer opportunities to support feeding neighbors in need. 

Shepherd’s Center of Northern Virginia
Assists older adults with aging in place by providing various services, companionship and community.
