July 15 Board Matter: Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts Concurrent Processing for SEA-82-C-027-002

Background:

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, the Applicant, is the owner of approximately 17.2 acres generally located between Dulles Toll Road to the east and Trap Road to the west. The applicant operates a performing arts center known as The Barns at Wolf Trap, constructed in 1981 under an approved Special Exception. The Applicant seeks approval of a Special Exception Amendment to permit the construction of an addition to The Barns that will improve the dining spaces and lobby area of the performance venue as well as other amenities for patrons. The Applicant is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and its cultural and educational programs actively serve and support the performing arts community of Fairfax County and the broader region.

The special exception amendment application is scheduled for hearings before the Planning Commission on November 19, 2025, and the Board of Supervisors on December 9, 2025. To enable the performance venue to continue operating efficiently and successfully, the Applicant has asked for consideration of concurrent processing of the associated site plan.

Motion:

Therefore, I move that the Board direct staff to authorize concurrent and simultaneous processing of a site plan, architectural drawings, and any other drawings as may be necessary in conjunction with SEA-82-C-027-002.

This motion should not be construed as a favorable recommendation by the Board on the proposed application and does not relieve the Applicant from compliance with the provisions of any applicable ordinances, regulations, or adopted standards.
