I am sorry to learn of the passing of Janet Howell, long-time Reston resident and our state senator for more than three decades. My predecessor, the late Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins, followed Janet as Forest Edge Elementary PTA President, and both were active soccer moms. Janet was an early board member for Reston Interfaith (now Cornerstones). She served as president of the Reston Citizens Association during the 1980s. More recently Janet got crucial state funding for the W&OD bridge over Wiehle Avenue. And in late 2022 she quietly let me know about casino interest in Reston/Tysons.

Janet got her start in Reston and never left. Thank you, Janet for all you did for our community.
