Fairfax County Supervisor Walter Alcorn appointed three members to the Reston Community Center Board of Governors, following the center’s 2026 Preference Poll.

At the Oct. 13 Board of Supervisors meeting, he made the motion to appoint these three Reston residents:
- Paul Berry
- William Penniman
- Hunter Wagenaar
These poll results for the three candidates were as follows: Berry (946 votes), Penniman (1,152 votes) and Wagenaar (1,067 votes.)
Incumbents Berry and Penniman were re-selected to the board while Wagenaar was selected to replace the seat currently held by Vicky Wingert. They will serve three-year terms.
What's the Preference Poll
The annual preference poll guides the selection of candidates to the nine-member Reston Community Center Board. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors then makes appointments to the center’s board following the poll.
Each year, up to three RCC board seats are up for election under the preference poll. Residents and businesses located in Small District 5 — which includes most Reston zip codes — may vote. This year voting took place from Sept. 4-25.
Candidates must be Reston residents who are 18 years of age or older may run, and there are no term limits.
RCC Board of Governors Function
RCC’s Board of Governors oversee its facilities, programs, services, personnel and fiscal operations, as well as represent the center at social, recreational, cultural and educational events. Members are volunteers who serve staggered three-year terms.
The Board of Supervisors established the Reston Community Center’s Board of Governors to represent the interests of Small District 5 in the operation of the community center. On March 24, 1975, the Board of Supervisors created this district to fund the construction and ongoing operation and maintenance of the Reston Community Center.
