Interactive Story and Activity Times for Preschoolers

Experience Early Literacy in Action with monthly virtual storytime and craft programs.

Tune in with your family to FCPL’s YouTube Channel one Friday each month at 10 a.m. for the premier of a new edition of our Early Literacy in Action interactive storytime series. Each time FCPL Early Literacy Coordinator Tina Mraz reads a book, shares an early literacy tip, and leads a craft activity created with materials found around the house. This summer’s programs will follow the Tails and TalesTM Summer Reading Adventure theme and feature animal stories and activities, like the cupcake liner fish craft demonstrated in the animated image (GIF) above and the instructions below (from iHeartCraftyThings.com).

  • blue sheet of paper
  • black markers
  • blue crayon
  • scissors
  • glue stick

  1. Use one cupcake liner for each fish body. Cut another liner in half and one of those pieces in half again for the back tail fin. For the side tail fin, cut a small amount off the other quarter piece of cupcake liner and cut off the triangle tip. Glue all the pieces together on the blue paper to make your fish.
  2. Draw an eye and mouth on each fish with the black marker.
  3. Draw bubbles and waves around the fish with the blue crayon.
