William McKinley Carter and Lillian Bryant Carter were instrumental in establishing an integrated library in the Town of Vienna, the Patrick Henry Library, which first opened in 1962. More Details.

Patrick Henry is located in the Town of Vienna, within walking distance of the W&OD bike trail. The collection is approximately 78,000 volumes, with the children's collection housed in a separate area.

A Vienna Library was incorporated in 1913 and operated a circulating library at 101 Maple Avenue East until 1962. Between 1962 and 1969, the county—with the assistance of the Friends of Vienna Library—operated a storefront library in the Giant Shopping Center. At that time, the old library building was relocated to the Vienna Green and a new building was constructed on this site. The historic library building, now call the Little Library, is maintained by Historic Vienna, Inc. Patrick Henry Library opened in the current building at this address in 1971.

There is a strong community involvement in the town and in the library, such as you might expect in a small town, yet it is the busiest library of its size in Fairfax County.
