A New Space to Create and Innovate

The renovated TechLab at Sherwood Regional Library offers new and improved resources and programs for tech seekers.

New Purpose

The TechLab at Sherwood Regional Library underwent an exciting transformation earlier this year. Thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of the Sherwood Library, it is now a modern hub for imagination, discovery and connection. When Fairfax County Public Library branches reopen to the public after the COVID-19 closure, stop by during open hours to play with new STEAM toys and gadgets, including Spheros, LEGOs, Apple Pencils and iPads, and microscopes. Or pop in to see Sherwood’s 3D printer in action. There are no reservations required, and these resources are 100% free.

Sherwood Tech Lab.Regular Hours

  • Monday: Closed (except for Memory Depot)
  • Tuesday-Friday: 12-5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1-4 p.m.

New Classes

The TechLab also plans to offer many new computer and crafting courses. Watch Sherwood’s events calendar when in-branch programming resumes to find classes on:

  • sewing
  • knitting
  • papermaking
  • card making
  • computer building
  • computer coding (for all ages)
  • Google Apps
  • creating 3D print projects with Tinkercad
  • editing videos with Apple iMovie
  • editing photos with Photoshop Express
  • and much more

In addition to group classes, one-on-one tutoring for many computer issues is available when branches are open to the public. So, if you find yourself needing help with Word, Excel, social media, your cell phone, the new library catalog or anything else, just call Sherwood’s information desk at 703-765-3645 (TTY: 711) to sign up for a one-hour session once they are available again.

(Digitize) New Memories

Sherwood’s Memory Depot is still located in the TechLab. The Memory Depot is a do it yourself (DIY) station which enables you to digitize materials like photos, VHS tapes and cassette tapes. Group orientations take place on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays when in-branch programming is offered. To learn more about the Memory Depot and reserve a station when branches reopen to the public, visit research.fairfaxcounty.gov/memory-depot. Sign up for an orientation online or call Sherwood’s information desk at 703-765-3645 (TTY: 711).
